Jeremy Toman Naturopathic Doctor

Even though I never saw a Naturopathic Doctor growing up, I still feel that I got a firm grounding in healthy living. Sitting down to some of our family dinners and being able to trace the majority of it back to our own farm was a foundational experience in being able to appreciate how connected we are to our environment.

It doesn’t seem too long ago that I left Brant township to go pursue a degree in Biochemistry with a specialty in Biotechnology at the University of Waterloo. I was curious about how life worked at its most basic level.

It was that interest, paired along with a desire to learn more about preventative medicine that lead me to apply for the naturopathic medical program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto. One of seven accredited naturopathic colleges across Canada and the US.

At CCNM I learned that health is not something that randomly goes awry rather there are progressive changes that happen in your body that lead up to the unpleasant symptoms of disease. Naturopathic Medicine looks at trying to recognize and predict these changes while giving your body the support that it needs to stop and reverse the degenerative process. Through epigenetics it is becoming better established that it is not necessarily what genes that you are born with that is the defining factor of your health status. Rather it matters what genes are becoming active and to what degree that is the most important determination for health. The genes that are turned on in your body become active through the signals that are sent from their environment. By altering diet, exercise, and giving therapeutic dosages of herbs and nutraceuticals it is possible to influence healthy activation of genes.

I am proud to be able to bring naturopathic medicine back to the Walkerton community to allow for more people to have access to safe and effective natural healthcare. I make sure to go above and beyond the minimum requirements for my continuing education in order to constantly be expanding my understanding of my healing modalities. I am a member of the OAND as well as the CAND and like all Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario am registered with the BDDT-N.

My Philosophy

- I agree with the World Health Organization that health is more then just the absence of disease or infirmity rather it is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.

- To be able to totally understand the health of a patient you have to look at all the presenting symptoms simultaneously so as to not overlook possible clues to the cause of the dysfunction.

- The health of a person is a direct reflection of the environment that they live in. Whether it is physical harm, chemical toxins, mental stress, negative self-talk, tainted food and water, or a lack of purpose any persistent stress on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual planes can lead to a decline in wellness.

- The body has a remarkable ability to recover and regenerate if given the proper conditions. It is much better to try to work with enhancing natural physical processes then trying to suppress unwanted symptoms.

My Goal

To be able to improve the health of all my patients allowing them to enjoy life to the best of their ability. To decrease the incidence of chronic disease in the Hanover and Walkerton areas.
